Reports and Agenda for our 2025 APCM

Documents for APCM

Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting or APCM will be taking place in St John’s on Sunday 18th May at 12.30pm, after our regular 11am service of Holy Communion.

The documents for our APCM have to be published in advance to allow parishioners to study them ahead of the meeting. Links to these are below:

APCM Reports on 2024 Church Activities (updated version)
Peterborough Parish Annual Accounts for 2024

You may want to keep an eye on this page as it’s possible either or both of these documents may receive minor additions or amendments over the next day or two.

Please note that the APCM agenda can be found on page 2 of the Annual Reports booklet above (i.e. the first of the links above).

If you’re new here and have no idea what an APCM is or what happens at one, then the explanation below may help you.

What is an APCM and what happens at them?

Our APCM, which is the church’s equivalent to the AGMs held by businesses, clubs and charities, is important occasion when we review the past year, elect our churchwardens and PCC members and consider our mission priorities for the coming year. All are welcome to attend the meeting, and anyone on the church’s Electoral Roll can vote in the election of our Churchwardens and members of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) – or stand for one of these positions themselves. This year we shall be electing 3 new PCC members, and we also need a Health & Safety Officer for the coming year as June Bull is retiring from this role after many years of service.

Officially speaking churchwardens aren’t elected at the APCM itself, but at the Vestry Meeting which immediately precedes it. At the APCM itself we hold an election for new PCC (Parochial Church Council) members, and some years, but not this year, we also elect our Deanery Synod members. In previous years we have always elected the whole PCC at the APCM, with successful candidates being elected for a one year term, but last year we changed our rules to bring us into line with most other Church of England parishes, and from now on we will only be electing one third of PCC members each year, and successful candidates will normally be elected for a three year term. Churchwardens are always elected just for one year.

At the APCM the church’s accounts for the previous calendar year are presented to those present, and there is an opportunity to ask questions about these. and the meeting votes on whether or not to adopt (i.e approve) the accounts. This vote is usually a formality, although it is not unknown for an eagle-eyed parishioner to spot something that will need to be amended.
