Every week, St John’s runs a café with homemade cakes and Fairtrade tea and coffee to raise money for local and national charities. Visit us on Saturdays between 10am and 12 noon to enjoy a cup of coffee in the beautiful surroundings of a medieval church, raising money for good causes. Alongside the café is our Welcome Counter with a wealth of knitted items, jewellery and souvenirs and Wendy’s warm welcome! Two new initiatives also happen regularly at the Saturday café:
- Our “A Good Yarn” group meets there twice a month. Church member June offers support with knitting and crochet and everyone is busily creative together.
-
Also on the first Saturday of each month, Jenny welcomes people to the Divorce 221 Support Group for help and support for anyone going through this traumatic experience. See the poster on the right for more info or ask Revd Michelle or community hub coordinator Malikia Brewster if you’d like to know more.
Support for Good Causes
Every year, St John’s is able to make donations to local and national charities thanks to those who work tirelessly at our coffee mornings on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Our profits from 2025 meant we were able to raise £5278 to donate £300 each to twelve different charities, as well as £292 to be kept in reserve to donate to the next DEC disaster appeal, £1336 to the St John’s mission fund, and £50 for the Peterborough Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers.
The charities which received the donations were: Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall; Peterborough Soup Kitchen; Peterborough Women’s Aid; Light Project Peterborough; St John Ambulance; Leprosy Mission; Mind; British Red Cross; Inclusive Church; A Rocha UK (administers the Eco Church Award); The Children’s Society; Christian Aid.
A huge thank you to all who attend and run this important part of our parish life!
