St John’s ‘Winter Support Hub’

Now that winter is over our support hub hours have changed. For the latest information please visit New Community Hub opening hours for Spring

What is it and who is it for?

Working with churches and other community organisations across the city Peterborough City Council has set up Winter Support Hubs to offer support to anyone struggling with the cost of living.

The hubs are funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Household Support Fund and are open to everyone seeking support as a result of the cost of living crisis.

What help is available?

The Community Café will be serving light meals such as breakfast cereal, toast, soup etc as well as hot and cold drinks. We’ll also offer essentials for warmth such as warm clothing, hot water bottles, blankets – and daily essentials such as toiletries, loo rolls, nappies, sanitary products etc. We will offer assistance with online applications for Government Cost of Living Support, and be able to provide leaflets or advice on other partner agencies.

When is it open?

Our hub runs every Tuesday between 9am and 5.30pm and with  a community café operating between 10am and 4pm and every Friday between 11am and 3pm with the café open between 12 noon and 2pm.  The church heating will be on and games and puzzles will be available, so we’re hoping to give a warm welcome to everyone at our “Toasty Tuesdays”. On Fridays the café will also be serving home made soup!

What about the rest of the week?

St John’s is one of three city centre churches that will be operating as hubs, along with Park Road Baptist Church and St Mark’s.

You can find contact details for all the other winter support hubs around the city on the City Council website here. There’s also a page with lots of information about what’s happening at all the hubs around the city on the “How are You Peterborough” website here.
