Almost all the information on this page is contained in our Lent leaflet, which you can download here.
Lent, our time of focus as we prepare for Easter, begins on Ash Wednesday – 22nd February 2023. There will be services at St Luke’s with Imposition of Ashes at noon and St John’s at 7.30pm.
The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book 2023
What is failure? What did Jesus think of it? What did he say about sin, mistakes and generally mucking things up? This wonderfully humorous and encouraging book helps us to look at failure in a different way and reminds us of our calling to live life to the full and to take risks despite our fears.
Would you like to be part of a group looking at and discussing this book? There are two options – Thursday afternoon at St Luke’s at 3.30pm (finishing with Evening Prayer at 5pm), starting on 23rd February, or Wednesday evening online starting on 1st March, at 7pm (finishing with Night Prayer at 8.30pm).
Lent in Plain Sight
Come along to St John’s at any time during Lent, to take part in our hands on ‘Lenten Stations Trail’ based on Jill Duffield’s devotional, ‘Lent in Plain Sight’. Jill explores ten ordinary objects that Jesus would have encountered on his way to Jerusalem, and each station will be based on one of these, giving you the opportunity to engage in a practical way.
You might like to use the book at home for your own Lenten
journey.
Godly Play for LENT
Four opportunities to share some Godly Play stories that use objects and wondering to help us explore the pilgrimage of faith and the journey of life!
Come along to ‘Chill and Chat’ at St Luke’s on 8th, 22nd, 29th March and 5th April for coffee from 9am and at 11am we’ll hear a story and finish with Midday Prayer at noon. You are also welcome to drop in to Chill and Chat any week between 9am and 12 noon.
Poetry Please
If you can’t manage any of the groups, why not think about using poetry as your journey through Lent this year! Janet Morley’s beautiful compilation of poetry for every day of Lent and Easter – ‘The Heart’s Time’ is a wonderful way to mark the days of Lent, Holy Week and Easter season – this is one Lent Course you can follow from the comfort of your own home!
Fridays in Lent
Our Eucharist Service on Fridays at St John’s will offer prayer, readings and meditation for Lent. Join in at noon with soup lunch afterwards.
